CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Albany man was arrested Monday after allegedly hitting a 93-year-old pedestrian at Newark Street and Congress Street—police found his vehicle after he reported it stolen—and the victim later died at Albany Medical Center.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 19th, WAMC's David Guistina spoke with Times Union editor Mike Goodwin about state senators planning to investigate rising property insurance costs in New York—lawmakers are reviewing the issue as they weigh next steps. The interview highlighted concerns over increasing premiums amid growing pressure for regulatory action.  WAMC
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul joined local officials as they removed a section of the long-abandoned Central Warehouse in downtown Albany. Albany County plans to use $11.6 million in state funds for a $11.7 million demolition project — which will remove asbestos over 4 to 5 months and clear the 1.1-acre site for future redevelopment.  NewsChannel 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • At Colonie Golf & Country Club on Monday, more than 170 golfers raised nearly $200,000 for a new Parkinson’s Center at Hannaford Plaza on Wolf Road—organized by volunteers and sponsored by Mohawk Chevrolet—to help improve care for those with the disease.  NewsChannel 13
