  • Multiple consumers filed lawsuits in Albany County against the Business Council after a February cyberattack exposed personal data such as names, birth dates, and Social Security numbers. The council said it contained the breach, notified state authorities, and offered 12-month credit monitoring—while firmly defending itself in state Supreme Court.  Times Union

  • On August 14, a 61-year-old Albany man named James Holmes stabbed a 34-year-old on Central Avenue at 11:50 p.m. and was charged with second degree attempted murder and third degree criminal possession of a weapon—he was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Thursday morning.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Albany County Jail correction officer Randolph Marks was arrested Tuesday, August 26 after he reportedly kicked an incarcerated person during a struggle, causing a head contusion — he now faces charges of third-degree assault and official misconduct and is suspended without pay pending termination.  WRGB

  • The Capital District Scottish Games will be held on August 30 at the Altamont Fairgrounds where families can watch piping, drumming, Highland dance, athletic competitions, and an opening parade at 11:30 a.m. — they will also enjoy Scottish beer, handmade goods, and a dog breed show showcasing Scottish heritage.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers headed to Empire State Plaza should expect a detour and delays on the South Mall Arterial starting Wednesday as OGS begins work to repair water intrusion and replace aging expansion joints beneath the road. The work will pause for winter and resume in spring with major repairs planned to finish by the end of 2026—site restoration will be completed by 2027.  Times Union

  • The University at Albany football team is gearing up for 2025 with new coach Jared Ambrose and fresh talent as they will open their season on Saturday at Iowa+ former head coach Greg Gattuso stepped down last February after a record-setting tenure.
