BUSINESS NEWS

  • A federal lawsuit filed in Albany on Aug. 26 says that workers at Target’s Wilton and Amsterdam-area warehouses must walk long distances to get to their work areas and should be paid for that extra time. The suit claims these long walks during shifts may cost each worker thousands of dollars in back pay—raising concerns over New York labor law violations.  Times Union

CRIME NEWS

  • Albany resident Quentin Rowlett, a 37 year old convicted felon, pleaded not guilty to multiple drug and weapon possession charges when he was arraigned on a five count indictment after a search of his Marshall Street home on August 21 yielded cocaine, fentanyl, a loaded handgun, and cash—he now remains in custody at the Albany County Correctional Facility.  WRGB
  • Albany Police are looking for a missing 14-year-old boy with autism—Matthew Taylor was last seen Friday at 11:10 a.m. leaving his home on Elberon Place near South Lake Avenue wearing a white shirt, white shorts and black slippers, and anyone with information is asked to call 518-462-8039.  NewsChannel 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albany County is planning $180 million in upgrades for its two wastewater treatment plants, which will cost taxpayers $126 million through higher sewer bills. Construction will begin next year and residents in areas like Green Island will see the highest rate increases—up to $178.59 annually.  Times Union
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul criticized Rep. Elise Stefanik for not holding in-person town halls in her district since 2019 during her Aug. 4 news conference at the Capitol in Albany—Stefanik's spokesman noted that she has attended other local events instead. The exchange added to the growing debate over each politician’s commitment to meeting with voters amid key policy issues affecting local health care and business.  Times Union
  • Senator Patricia Fahy announced today that her office has secured a $50,000 operating grant for Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus in Albany—this funding will support after-school programs and English classes amid rising federal enforcement tactics.  WRGB
