- ➤ Colonie police responded to a series of crime incidents—ranging from arresting a Troy woman for destroying evidence at a Super 8 motel to handling cases of domestic violence, DWI, shoplifting, and warrant-related offenses from Aug. 4 to Aug. 15. Spotlight News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Champlain Hudson Power Express cable—sending Canadian hydropower to New York City—is in its final stage and will be completed this fall. Work on the cable under Lake Champlain near Westport shows steady progress as it connects local communities to the city grid. Times Union
- ➤ First Columbia proposed a nine-story office building at 705 Broadway that will include a 100-seat restaurant and a 56-unit apartment building to boost downtown commerce. Gov. Hochul is expected to allocate part of her $200 million economic development funds to support the project—Albany Planning Board will review the proposal soon. Times Union

- ➤ Watervliet will share property assessment services with Cohoes starting early September—after its assessor retired. Cohoes' assessor Sharlene Gillan will work four days in Cohoes and one day in Watervliet as Watervliet pays Cohoes $21,000 for employment costs. Times Union
- ➤ New York lawmakers passed a bipartisan law that bans social media platforms from using automated algorithms to target minors and sending overnight notifications, and Gov. Hochul signed it in June 2024. The attorney general’s office is expected to release draft regulations in the coming weeks—these rules must be finalized and go through a public comment period before the law takes effect after April 2026—raising questions about its future impact.
