ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 63-year-old man was injured when a black bear attacked him in his home in Cairo on Saturday around 8 p.m.—DEC trapped and humanely euthanized the bear following standard protocols, and the man was treated at a hospital and released the next day. ABC NEWS 10
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 65-year-old man was shot in the back late Thursday on North Pearl Street near the Interstate 90 overpass and taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition — police are investigating and searching for the suspect. Times Union
- ➤ Tymell Cooks, 36, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to charges including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine and possessing firearms to protect his drug operations—sentencing is set for January 6th, 2026. WRGB

- ➤ Double M’s Haunted Hayrides, a renowned spooky attraction in Ballston Spa, will mark its 35th season starting on September 20 with discounted admission and new haunted scenes—this will be followed by a customer appreciation night on September 27 and Little Monster’s Day scheduled for October 4 or October 5 if rain occurs. - ➤ The Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro area grew its young adult population by 5,419 residents between April 1, 2020 and July 1—bringing the total to 229,240 residents. The Center for Economic Growth said its Summer Internship Engagement Program connected 142 interns with local employers to boost regional talent. Spotlight News

- ➤ Christian Brothers Academy begins its school year today at 8:30 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony at the school flagpole & will honor Rev. John J. Yanas Jr., a 1972 alumnus with over 40 years of ministry in the Diocese, by awarding him the LTC Todd J. Clark ’90 Memorial Service Award. WRGB
- ➤ The former College of Saint Rose has asked a judge in Albany County for permission to disperse more than $20M in restricted funds to schools and nonprofits—including $6.9M for Siena University—and to support scholarships for former students. The petition, filed Wednesday as part of the college’s bankruptcy process, marks one of the final steps in closing the shuttered school and shifting its teach-out arrangements to other institutions.
