COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Out of the Pits Dog Rescue will set up a special pen with adoptable pit bull dogs at the Guilderland Farmers Market at the public library on Sunday, September 7. The rescue will host an adoption clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—providing pet adoption resources.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Non-partisan community groups held a press conference on Friday, September 5th, in front of City Hall in Troy to demand government transparency and due process after ICE actions led to multiple detentions—reports document at least 36 detentions in Troy, one deportation and various ICE encounters since February.  WRGB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lauren Vanroy and Alyssa Anthony launched The Sip Society mobile coffee bar this summer to serve handcrafted espresso drinks at hospitals, workplaces, and private parties in Albany. They plan to expand service with seasonal specials, including a banana bread flavored latte — a new way to bring coffee shop convenience to local events.  ABC NEWS 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A 79-year-old resident of Eddy Village Green was injured in February when a nursing assistant pushed her to the floor causing a hip fracture and limited mobility, and her family has sued the facility for alleged neglect while the aide was fired and state investigators review the matter—criminal charges may follow.  Times Union
  • Samir Princeton and Dejouné Smith faced upgraded murder charges in Albany for a May barbershop drive-by shooting that killed Tyrone Staley — they pleaded not guilty as new evidence led the district attorney to restart trial steps with defense motions due October 20 and a community response set for November 3.  WRGB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Rockefeller Institute of Government in Albany released a report showing over 90 percent of the state’s drinking water systems have inventoried lead pipes — more than 200 systems remain unlogged. The analysis used data from municipalities that submitted their inventories under the Lead Pipes Right to Know Act.  WAMC

  • Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan danced with Albany City School District Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter at Albany High (she said the friendly battle is a tradition she will miss as she is not running for re-election).  NewsChannel 13
  • Two proposed pipelines by the Williams Companies are under review by the Department of Environmental Conservation after earlier rejection, and Gov. Kathy Hochul faces criticism from environmental advocates who claim the projects do not meet strict climate standards — some state lawmakers are considering new rules to tighten the approval process.  Times Union
