  • The Albany Ride for Missing Children held a 100-mile cycling event in Saratoga County to honor missing children and raise funds for child safety—organizers and riders shared personal stories with stops every 5 to 15 miles along the route.  WRGB
  • Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob in Albany added private security, local police at the entrances, and a security gate—measures taken in response to rising antisemitism as the community prepares for Rosh Hashanah. Rabbi Ben Kean said these steps will help ensure safety as the holiday begins at sundown on Monday, September 22.  WRGB

  • Exotic cars seized from jailed loan broker Kris Roglieri are among about 250 vehicles up for auction at the Saratoga Casino Hotel today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the sale is part of bankruptcy efforts to repay fraud victims.  Times Union

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Public Service Commission approved a long term natural gas plan that includes an expansion of a pipeline to supply gas to lower New York, a move that had been stopped by state regulators. Environmental advocate Laura Shindell warned that the plan may leave ratepayers with a stranded asset—risking financial harm as the state shifts to all electric construction.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A pre-trial conference for St. Clare’s pensioners was held yesterday at the Schenectady County Courthouse as attorneys set deadlines for filing motions and preparing jury instructions—The trial will run from November 3rd to December 20th and may be livestreamed to accommodate extra spectators.  WAMC
  • The National Labor Relations Board sued New York State and its Public Employment Relations Board in federal court on September 12 over a law—S8034A/A8590A—that it said unlawfully regulates private labor disputes under federal rules. The suit asks the court to declare the law invalid and to stop the state from enforcing it.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Albany County legislator Beroro Efekoro is under investigation after records show he registered to vote at addresses outside his district twice since 2019. He said a driver’s license update caused the error—officials continue to probe his residency question.  Times Union
  • The New York State Liquor Authority approved extended hours for liquor stores in Albany County, establishing operations from 8 AM to midnight on weekdays and from 10 AM to 10 PM on Sundays year-round—regulations set to match changing work shifts.  WAMC
  • The Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority released an update on its Reimagine Saint Rose project showing strong community input with more than 300 people at a workshop and over 400 online survey responses. Phase I is nearly complete while Phase II will continue this fall with a workshop on September 25 and presence at the Upper Madison Street Fair on September 28—all phases are expected to finish by November with a final master plan planned.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Senator George Borrello introduced a bill to crack down on license plate fraud by increasing penalties from a misdemeanor to a felony for selling and using fake plates—an effort prompted by drivers facing steep fines and credit damage. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple noted that many paper license plates are illegally made and sold, and lawmakers will review the bill when they meet in January.  ABC NEWS 10
  • The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and several unions published recommendations to amend the HALT Act to adjust solitary confinement limits and allow more flexibility in disciplinary housing following an unauthorized strike earlier this year. Critics argue the proposals will expand solitary confinement and increase risks for both staff and incarcerated people — intensifying concerns about prison safety.  ABC NEWS 10
