COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 29th annual Capital Region Buddy Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 28 at Schenectady’s Central Park — the event will honor people with Down Syndrome, raise funds for the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, and promote inclusion. Christina Arangio will host the walk as she supports Team Luke and highlights the center's programs.  ABC NEWS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NYC Pizza Vending will install a new machine at 80 State St. in Albany next month that cooks personal pizzas in 90 seconds to 3 minutes using a touchscreen order—entrepreneur Steven Weiss said it will offer choices like margherita and pepperoni starting at $20.  Times Union
  • Too Good To Go partnered with local restaurants—like Whole Foods and Bitchin Donuts—to offer surplus food at discounted prices so extra meals reach customers instead of being thrown away.  ABC NEWS 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A junior high student in Hudson City School District is barred from school after allegedly saying they planned to bring a gun to school—law enforcement is investigating the threat.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Albany Book Festival returns to the University at Albany on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—book lovers can enjoy free sessions with book signings and meet and greets at the Campus Center on Washington Avenue.  ABC NEWS 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAlbany has named Jason Corace as the first director of its new Game Center as it launches undergraduate and graduate game design programs this semester—he will lead a hands-on curriculum that connects students with local game studios in the Capital Region.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany was nationally recognized when U.S. News & World Report ranked it No. 22 for social mobility and No. 61 for best value among public schools on Sept. 23, a sign of strong student support. The University welcomed over 17,300 students this Fall—demonstrating its growing impact in the Capital Region.  University at Albany

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New York Attorney General Letitia James and state lawmakers urge the EPA to retain the 2009 greenhouse gas endangerment finding to protect public health, arguing that a rollback would violate law and scientific consensus. They warned that repealing the protections could worsen climate risks in New York—leading to more extreme weather and health challenges.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State funds were awarded to Cohoes, Watervliet, and Troy to upgrade street cameras so police could review evidence more quickly. Assemblyman John McDonald announced Tuesday that Troy and Cohoes received $125,000 each while Watervliet got $250,000—improving the roughly 180 cameras already in service.  WAMC
  • New York state lawmakers introduced a bipartisan draft animal boarding bill after several animal abuse cases occurred this summer. The proposed regulation would require facilities to register, pay a $150 fee, pass random inspections and meet safety standards—violators could face fines up to $1,000.  WAMC
  • Families met with lawmakers Tuesday at Saratoga County Public Safety Facility after several pet deaths at boarding facilities sparked calls for better oversight. Legislators introduced the New York State Safe Pet Boarding Act—this bill will set state licensing, random inspections and care standards, and they will seek additional co-sponsors before the next session.  ABC NEWS 10
