COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bethlehem officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday to mark the completion of renovations at Normans Kill Ravines Park in Delmar—where the park now spans 155 acres with three new bridges and trails that improve emergency access and maintenance.  ABC NEWS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The New York State Liquor Authority changed its policies to let more adult entertainment venues—such as comedy clubs, pool halls, and virtual reality arcades—apply for liquor licenses if they meet state and local laws and demonstrate responsible alcohol service. The policy, approved on September 18, is expected to support economic growth.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Ballston Spa Bancorp and NBC Bancorp have announced plans to merge into a $1.3 billion community bank that will serve the Capital District and beyond. BSNB will keep its charter — while NBC locations become Coxsackie Bank, with Christopher Dowd as chief executive and John Balli as president, as the merger is expected to finish by the second quarter.  ABC NEWS 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Siena University and DNA Finders will host the second annual New York State Cold Case Day on Sept. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Siena or via Zoom—panelists will review unsolved cases and discuss how new forensic testing might reveal important leads.  ABC NEWS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Albany film projects are rising as local filmmakers choose the Capital Region for its low costs and experienced crews—local cinematographer Lakota Ruby-Eck, who started at Albany High, now works full-time on diverse productions from indie films to commercials. Experts say this trend is drawing more projects to the area, boosting local talent and production opportunities.  Times Union

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News and World Report released its 2026 Best Colleges rankings on Tuesday after reviewing nearly 1,700 colleges using 17 factors. In the Capital Region, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy ranked 64th overall while University at Albany placed 127th—Russell Sage College ranked 213th.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CDTA buses now show 'fare required' notices as part of a public campaign to curb rising fare evasion; CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro said the initiative uses visible signs and audible messages—designed to protect drivers while offering fare assistance on routes with higher evasion rates.  WAMC
  • NY Power Authority is using a $7.5 million airplane to shuttle engineers from its White Plains hangar to project sites across the state — the move supports efficient travel while the agency employs three pilots to manage operations.  WRGB
  • Thousands lost power in the Capital Region when National Grid reported outages in Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren, Albany and Schenectady Counties Wednesday—restoration was expected between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. that day.  ABC NEWS 10

  • Local student models including Maggie Cramer, Kylie Davis and siblings Payton and Ellie O'Neil will walk the runway at Empire Live on Saturday, September 27th for the Rock Your Style fashion show fundraiser—raising money to support the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation. They will honor loved ones affected by cancer while helping local patients cover everyday expenses.  WRGB
  • One-year-old Halo from Watervliet has been diagnosed with the rare CTBP1 syndrome, a condition affecting only sixteen children worldwide. Her mother Theresa is seeking community support via a GoFundMe to help with Halo's treatment and research — doctors say the syndrome causes developmental delays and low muscle tone.  ABC NEWS 10
