  • Todd Farrell met Susan Havens at Arsenal City Tavern on Sunday to thank her for the liver donation that saved his life—he has been sober ever since his transplant. He gifted a painting of her son Christopher, who died in a car accident, to honor his legacy and show deep gratitude.  ABC NEWS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visitors can explore upstate New York spots that served as filming locations for popular TV shows such as The Gilded Age, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Gilmore Girls, Star Trek and Schitt’s Creek. Local areas like Troy, Schenectady, Deposit and Sharon Springs have been used to capture the look of these series — offering fans a chance to step into their favorite shows.  Times Union
  • Wolff’s Biergarten in Albany hosted its annual Oktoberfest on Saturday—featuring a beer chugging contest, a Bavarian strength challenge where a contestant carried 300 pounds, tug of war, and a stein holding contest.  Times Union

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a Lake George summit, the Lake George Association and other advocates called for state goals to reduce road salt use and backed a Senate-passed bill that would form an agency panel—aiming to protect water sources and lessen damage to roads. Lawmakers and environmental groups said the measure will guide future efforts to manage salt use more effectively.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik has secured a provision that will ban new DJI drones if a security audit finds risks—Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple warned that the search and rescue team may struggle due to costlier and less effective American alternatives if the ban goes into effect.  Times Union
  • Landmarks across New York State will be illuminated in gold Sunday night for Gold Star Mothers and Families Day to honor families who lost loved ones in military service—16 structures including bridges, buildings, and an airport gateway will take part in the tribute. Governor Hochul reaffirmed the state's commitment to remembering these sacrifices.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Asian political influence is growing in New York City while Asian groups upstate, including in Albany, have doubled over 15 years. Local leaders say many residents remain less engaged due to language barriers and a lack of community spaces — a key challenge they aim to overcome.  Times Union

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University at Albany women's soccer team earned its first America East win when Casey Stowell scored a game-winning goal in the 90th minute on Sunday in Newark — the team won 2 to 1 over NJIT with Madison Hnis scoring earlier and goalie Claudia Volino stopping nine shots.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany lost to Bryant — falling in four sets — on Sunday in Rhode Island after a thrilling third set; the team now stands at 6-8 and will face New Hampshire on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany women's rowing team raced at the Mohawk Valley Classic on the Mohawk River in Schenectady and won first place in their classes. They will travel to Hartford on October 5 and Head Coach Kim Chavers said the performance by freshmen and transfers—showing promise for the season—is very encouraging.  University at Albany
