COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bus Stop Club, a Capital Region nonprofit that helps siblings of children with chronic illnesses or disabilities, marks 20 years and will host events like a trip to Radio City Music Hall Rocket Show and Santa’s Magical Express in October and November — Executive Director Angela Tobin discussed the milestone on CBS6 Morning show.  WRGB
  • Residents at the Amsdell Apartments in Albany formed a tenants union to demand that management fix ongoing safety issues at the Jay Street property—issues such as mold, faulty sprinkler systems, and ineffective fire escapes that led 80% of tenants to seek representation. Management has cleared fire egresses while code enforcement has cited NCG Jay LLC and set a deadline in November for corrections.  WRGB
  • Capital District Latinos held a Hispanic Heritage Month event featuring cultural performances by youth and families in traditional clothing & a group photo display, while working with the Red Cross to offer a quick blood donation drive with free merchandise and gift cards.   • Price Chopper bought Latham Liquors in September in the Latham plaza at 873 Loudon Road—its first liquor store purchase. The store operates on a temporary license valid through March 14 while the chain awaits a full license.  Times Union
  • The Book House will close its current space on Dec. 28th and reopen in a new location at Stuyvesant Plaza on Jan. 2nd, 2026 — the independent bookstore of 50 years will move only a two-minute walk to continue serving regular customers with a refreshed layout and a dedicated children’s area.  Times Union

  • David Guistina works at WAMC as the host of Capital Connection, Legislative Gazette and Morning Edition and is the producer of the Media Project. His programs focus on New York state government and current events so listeners get clear updates on key issues.  WAMC
