- ➤ Twenty-eight tenants at The Amsdell on Jay St. unionized during a rally on Oct. 11 to demand repairs for issues such as heat loss, mold, and fire hazards — landlords are set to respond with an email in 10 days and a repair plan in 30 days. Times Union

- ➤ Matthew Mardon, a 34-year-old Wynantskill resident and avid kickball player, died in a car crash on Sept. 30 when another vehicle—driven by a man accused of drunk driving—collided with his car on Everett Road near the I–90 ramp. Times Union

- ➤ CDPHP announced that its president and chief executive officer, Brian O’Grady, will retire on December 31 — he served for 1.5 years and built a nearly 40-year health care career — and its board has begun its search for a new chief executive. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ A Broadway dance party will take place on November 28 at Empire Underground in Albany — located at 93 N Pearl Street — where fans will enjoy popular show tunes and surprise guest performances. - ➤ UAlbany assistant professor Scott Storm received the National Council of Teachers of English Promising Researcher Award on Oct. 14 for his study on how youth use creative writing to address social justice. His work builds on UAlbany’s strong tradition in literacy education—continuing a legacy of past award winners. University at Albany

- ➤ New York families who received Summer EBT funds on June 18 must use their remaining benefits by October 17—if not, the funds will expire. - ➤ A federal judge struck down New York’s Save the Hudson Act—meant to block Holtec International from releasing radioactive wastewater from the decommissioned Indian Point plant into the Hudson River. Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James announced they will appeal the ruling—stating the plant will not reopen. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ Abby McBride, a 24-year-old first-year EMT in Bethlehem, delivered two babies during separate emergency calls on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18—assisting one mother shortly after midnight and helping another at 1:30 a.m. to safely bring each baby into the world. Spotlight News

- ➤ Jenna Zunic of UAlbany field hockey was named Defensive Player of the Week by America East after helping her team hold Bryant to a shutout with a score of 3 to 0 on Oct. 10 and scoring the winning goal in a 2 to 1 victory over Northeastern on Oct. 12—her first career weekly award.
