COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Regional Food Bank is celebrating its 15th Annual Mac N Cheese Bowl on October 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—closing Remsen Street in Cohoes and inviting the public to choose the best macaroni and cheese. Local vendors and live entertainment will enhance the family-friendly event.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Rensselaer County and the Tri-City ValleyCats will host Fall Fest at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday evening and Saturday. The festival will offer family activities — trick or treat, apple bobbing, pumpkin painting and Halloween movie screenings — and registration is encouraged as spaces are limited.  ABC NEWS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ira Glass, the creator, producer and host of This American Life, will share lessons from his career in storytelling at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on October 25.  WAMC
  • A Troy home built in the early 1900s—owned by the same family for six generations—will be featured on HGTV's 'Scariest Home in America' in an episode called 'Ghoulish in the Great Lakes' airing Friday at 9 p.m. The program will spotlight claims of strange events and nine spirits reportedly detected in the house.  Times Union
  • Albany-born filmmaker Mas Bouzidi debuts his film Concessions today at the Woodstock Film Festival—set in Albany on the final day of an independent theater and featuring one of Michael Madsen's last roles, it draws on local history and theatrical memories.  Times Union

  • Four UAlbany faculty members nominated for outstanding contributions will speak on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon at ETEC as part of Research & Entrepreneurship Week, presenting on topics including health communication and the aviation industry's impact on Earth's climate+ the event is themed Celebrating Research from Innovation to Impact.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures launched a new Spanish/English Bilingualism Certificate that lets undergraduate students earn a formal language credential — they must complete 10 credits with a minimum 3.0 GPA to qualify.  University at Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblywoman Amy Paulin has sponsored a bill to have the state Department of Health study and improve New York's early intervention program after a report by The Children's Agenda found the state performs poorly with low funding and delayed services for eligible children; lawmakers may revisit the bill next year during budget negotiations.  Times Union

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, Spirit Halloween set out costumes at the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital to help ease kids' fears, and the event lifted spirits as children picked picks from fun options. A five-year-old boy who had surgery chose a blue ninja suit (with a sword and mask) that brightened his day.  WAMC

  • The University at Albany women’s lacrosse program announced Taylor Frink’s promotion to associate head coach, noting her key role in guiding the team to America East Championship games and NCAA Tournament appearances since 2016. Frink also made history as the first Indigenous Head Coach of the Haudenosaunee Nationals women's team by leading them to a medal finish at the 2025 PALA Women's Lacrosse Championship—an achievement recognized across the region.  University at Albany
