  • United Way of the Greater Capital Region will hold its annual Power Pitch event on December 3 at Brown’s Revolution Hall in Troy to honor local women and non-profits making an impact in education, health, and financial opportunities. A $10,000 award and other prizes will be given as finalists pitch projects — following last year’s win by BirthNet, which focused on equitable birth support.  ABC NEWS 10

  • Ann Lauterbach is a poet and essayist who released her eleventh collection Door. She will lead a session titled 'Notes on Difficult Joy' at 3:00 p.m. today at the Hannah Arendt center’s JOY conference — the talk will show her blend of poetics, politics and visual arts.  WAMC

  • Heavy rain from the nor’easter eased drought conditions in Albany as areas shifted from moderate drought to abnormally dry—yet much of the state still needs more rain. A cold front moving through Sunday night will bring additional showers to the region.  Times Union

  • Albany leaders and community organizers are urging residents to join the No Kings Day of Action rally today from noon to 2 p.m. on Western Ave between Fuller Road and Manning Boulevard—protesters aim to challenge federal budget cuts on education and safeguard immigrant rights while local police monitor the event amid expected counter-protests and nationwide participation.  WRGB
  • Federal employees at Albany International Airport are receiving about 75% of their normal pay during week three of the government shutdown—facing the prospect of missing full paychecks if it continues—and local groups like Albany Broadcasting Company and Primo Hoagies rallied by providing free lunches to over 225 workers from TSA, FAA and Customs and Border Protection.  ABC NEWS 10
  • A report from the New York Independent System Operator said that closing two power plants may leave the power grid short for the next hot summers — prompting the agency to plan needed upgrades. The move in NY program will send 200 prefab homes to more areas — aiming to help local low and middle income buyers find quality houses.  ABC NEWS 10

  • The University at Albany football team will play its fourth home game and celebrate homecoming as it hosts the University of Rhode at 3:30 p.m. today at Casey Stadium—alumni are expected to join in the celebration.  University at Albany
  • The University at Albany Great Danes finished their last race before the America East Championship Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park — four runners made their collegiate debut while others improved their times.
