- ➤ Indian Ladder hosted Oyster Fest on October 25 and is holding it today until 5 p.m.—visitors get to try Blue Point oysters from Long Island with special beverage pairings while about 10,000 oysters are expected to be enjoyed by the end of the weekend, featuring Keenan Boyle known as Tall Mutha Shucka. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Watervliet Police responded to a call Friday night near Broadway and found a young pitbull tied to a pole, which they believe was abandoned— the dog has been taken to a local shelter and no arrests have been made. NewsChannel 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Mohonasen Marching Band gave a pre-championship performance of Led Zeppelin songs as they prepare for state championships tomorrow. The band has won almost every contest this season and is ranked number two in the state — family and friends gathered to show support. WRGB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Environmental Advocates NY released yesterday a report on lead service lines that estimates 555,000 lines still contain lead. The report explains state and local plans to replace these lines by 2037+ it offers guidance on improving water safety. WAMC
- ➤ Scientists reported that water samples collected in July from two high-altitude ponds on Mount Marcy showed Lake Tear of the Clouds had 16.54 microplastic particles per milliliter, a level much higher than Moss Pond’s 0.73 particles per milliliter. They said hikers may unknowingly add plastic from their gear and clothing, and further research will be done to confirm the sources of the contamination. Times Union

- ➤ In Albany, Sharon Ritmo received several speeding tickets from NYC school-zone cameras—each ticket mistakenly showing a motorcycle with a 'BELLA' plate even though she drives an SUV. Her attorney got seven tickets dismissed, but after more came in, she went to the DMV on Tuesday and turned in the sentimental plates to end the issue. Times Union
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Albany Med Health System is set to change Columbia Memorial Hospital to a critical access hospital pending state and federal approval, which will reduce its bed count from 192 to 65 (hospital staff will remain unchanged). A town hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. to gather community input on the changes. NewsChannel 13
- ➤ People from across the Capital Region walked Saturday in Albany for the Walk to End Alzheimer's to raise money for care, support and research—its goal was to reach $370,000. The event helped bring families together—so that those with the disease did not feel so alone. WRGB
- ➤ Albany and Schenectady firefighters teamed up Saturday to hold an event that helped first responders fight cancer and cover treatment costs—donations and raffle tickets raised funds for financial aid, education and support services. WRGB

- ➤ Today, the University at Albany men's soccer team won 2-0 on Senior Night against Binghamton at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium—freshman Caleb Vallance scored in the 30th minute while sophomore Alexander Clive Vokes sealed the win in the 83rd minute. The Great Danes will face No.7 Vermont in Burlington on October 31 at 6:00 p.m. University at Albany
- ➤ The UAlbany women's rowing team turned in a strong performance at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs on Saturday — earning top-10 finishes in four events against tough regional teams. The team will compete on November 1 in Shelton, Connecticut for the final regatta of the fall season. University at Albany
- ➤ The University at Albany football team got ahead early but lost 29-16 to #11 Villanova at Villanova Stadium (after struggling with key plays) on Saturday afternoon.
