- ➤ Restaurant owners Paula Patterson and Jake Robins hosted a pop-up at Subversive Malting and Brewing in Catskill where locals sampled dishes from their planned restaurant, First and Adams, set to open in mid-2026 in Troy—events in Troy and at Croix Farms also built buzz for the new menu and drink pairings from local partner Max Ocean. - ➤ Local author Kathryn Biel released her latest sports romantic comedy, 'Alive and Kicking'—the fourth book in her Boston Buzzards series. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation finished restoring the Dickinson Hill Fire Tower in Grafton Lakes State Park with help from park staff, volunteers, and community members. The project fixed 80 steps, replaced safety wire, repainted the tower and added new panels (these panels explain the tower’s past and the park’s trail system). WRGB

- ➤ This October, Vietnam veterans raise awareness of Agent Orange's harm—many now face ongoing health issues from their service. Nearly 3 million served in Vietnam, and veterans are highlighting expanded VA healthcare benefits to help address these challenges. WRGB
- ➤ Students from Albany's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences hosted a free community health and wellness expo at Crossgates Mall on Sunday morning — they provided blood pressure screenings and flu shots to residents. The expo will return next year to offer additional free services and information. WRGB

- ➤ The Section 2 girls' soccer tournament is underway with top seeds such as Shenendehowa from Class AAA, Mohonasen from Class AA, Schalmont from Class A, Mechanicville from Class B, Stillwater from Class C and Fort Ann from Class D. A Class AA quarterfinal on Oct. 24 in Ballston Spa saw strong play and championships will be held from Nov. 1 to Nov. 4. Times Union
- ➤ UAlbany volleyball rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Bryant in a five-set match Sunday afternoon at University Gym. The Great Danes improved their record to 12-9—Coach Josh Pickard said the win sets up their future game against Binghamton on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m. in Vestal. University at Albany
- ➤ The University at Albany Great Danes field hockey team won a close match against Stonehill on senior day at Alumni Turf—Mara Küskes scored twice and junior Pilar Lorenzini assisted, leading to a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
