- ➤ The UAlbany Jamaican Student Association is planning to raise funds to help people in Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa nears landfall – members worry for relatives living in flood- and landslide-prone areas. - ➤ Two Yemeni coffeehouse franchises will open in Latham by the end of the year, offering coffee, chai, and Middle Eastern pastries with late-night hours during Ramadan (they plan to open past midnight). - ➤ Historic remains found two weeks ago during excavation on Hamilton Hill have been reinterred at Vale Cemetery — the reinterment gives the remains a permanent resting place. The Daily Gazette
- ➤ Giuliana Bruno will dance Saturday night November 1 to raise money and awareness for the National MS Society in the third installment of Dancing with the Capital Region Stars. The fundraiser benefits 11 organizations — Jen Fogg will also compete to help them reach their goals. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ Four Capital Region natives from Delmar and Clifton Park are staying at a resort in Jamaica as they prepare for Hurricane Melissa to make landfall. They have updated the US Embassy with their documents and are following the resort’s shelter-in-place rules while they plan their return after the storm. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ Justice Julian Schreibman ruled last Friday that the DEC must issue new regulations by February 6 to meet state climate goals, and Governor Hochul announced on Monday that her administration will appeal the decision; she plans to work with legislators to revise the law in light of federal funding cuts and inflation — actions that could affect efforts to reduce emissions. - ➤ Local teacher Sarah Hurley donated her kidney to help a coworker’s husband who had long struggled with kidney disease—Rob Schacht said the donation has given him a chance to care for his young children and look forward to family moments.
