COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carrey Williams, who has been homeless for two years, is struggling with hunger because her SNAP benefits have not come through during the ongoing shutdown—she is forced to rely on local food pantries. The Sister Maureen Joyce Center Food Pantry will extend its hours next week by opening Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Friday until 2:30 p.m. to help meet urgent needs.  NewsChannel 13
  • Upstate Card Con will be held at Colonie Center on Saturday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the event will feature over 30 vendors selling sports cards, trading card games, memorabilia, and collectibles while offering a coloring contest, a trading pit, free entry, and mall parking.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Eric Nusbaum, a 36-year-old firefighter at the Elsmere Fire Department, lost his hearing at age 3 yet now serves his community by handling calls for vehicle accidents, fires, and rescues—he uses a vibrating scanner and a whiteboard for clear communication with his team. Fire Chief Marc Futia said Nusbaum’s quick reaction and extra awareness have led the department to include sign language training to further support his work.  Spotlight News

  • U.S. News & World Report released its 2025-26 Best Places to Retire in New York, ranking Albany 14th among Capital Region cities while Glens Falls ranked highest at fourth. The report measured factors such as quality of life, health care, taxes, population and job market.  ABC NEWS 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UAlbany men's soccer team held UMass Lowell to a 1 to 1 draw Tuesday night at Casey Stadium, which secured the No 3 seed in the America East Championship. They will host UMass Lowell again on November 8 for the quarterfinal round and outshot their opponent 16 to 5 with Tommy McFadden scoring UAlbany's only goal.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany Great Danes started their season with a 74 to 46 win over Marist at the Broadview Center Tuesday night—Hill scored 20 points and Stewart added 17 as the team controlled the game. They will play Syracuse on Friday at the Dome in their season’s second game.  University at Albany
