  • The Mohawk Ambulance Service turned an ambulance into a sleigh on wheels to deliver toys to children through Toys for Tots on Thursday — first responders and locals took part in the annual event. Donations remain available at several Capital Region stores for those wishing to help.  WRGB
  • Albany County is holding a series of drive-thru food distributions with the Regional Food Bank amid a 36-day government shutdown that delayed SNAP benefits—forcing local families to seek extra help. The drive-thru began at 11:30 a.m. and volunteers handed out food as the county provided $250,000 in funds and matched gift card donations up to $500,000—steps designed to ease the crisis until benefits resume.  ABC NEWS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local butcher shops reported challenges as beef prices hit record highs because of low cattle numbers and rising import costs, making it hard for small businesses to compete during the holiday season. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Russ family donated a 75-foot Norway spruce from their East Greenbush property that was cut on Thursday for Rockefeller Center’s iconic holiday tree—marking a long local tradition—and it will travel over 150 miles on Saturday for holiday display—set to show over 50,000 lights.  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • As the federal government shutdown continues, SNAP benefits have been partially suspended, making it harder for recipients with food sensitivities to get foods they can safely eat—residents in Saratoga County and Gloversville now face limited pantry options and tougher travel to food sources. Local organizations and state funds are stepping in to boost supplies until full benefits resume—emergency programs aim to meet the rising demand.  WAMC
