CULTURE NEWS

  • Times Union earned 10 awards from the Journalists Association of New York at a banquet on Saturday evening at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications—its work in investigative reporting, digital storytelling, podcasts, opinion writing and sports coverage was recognized.  Times Union
  • Musician Stephan Nance, known as Sparkbird, will release the new album 'Head Like a Nest' on November 14 — Nance and WAMC's Samantha Simmons spoke about the project on November 9.  WAMC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Stephentown Library in Rensselaer County is checking if the November 4 vote, which showed 524 ‘No’ votes and 57 ‘Yes’ votes on a proposal to raise funding from $95,000 to $110,000, was counted correctly—yes voters must sign an affirmation by November 13 to request a recount.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Large solar projects are being built across upstate as the state office streamlines approvals—often sidelining local zoning rules—while communities face changes to farmland and landscapes. Local governments receive payments but have little input in the siting process, leaving residents divided over the impacts.  Times Union

  • On Sunday afternoon, UAlbany volleyball raced to a two-set lead with strong offense and net defense but NJIT rallied to win the match in five sets at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center in Newark — the Great Danes will host Bryant for senior night on November 14.  University at Albany
  • Runners took part in the 2025 Stockade-athon 15K race on Sunday, Nov 9 in Schenectady—with winners including Cara Udvadia in the women’s division and Grant O’Connor in the men’s category—and raced along State Street and through Central Park.  Times Union
