  • Former NCAA hockey goalie and current Union College assistant athletic director Brianne Brinker released her new book (Skating Out of the Vault: A Trans Woman’s Escape from The Game of Masculinity) that tells how sports shaped her identity and boosted her confidence after she transitioned in April 2019. She says her book marks her biggest personal achievement, sharing her journey at this stage in her life.  WAMC
  • Local playwright, author, and musician Steve Grogan’s three-act play “There is Hope” was inspired by personal loss and an old friend’s support—its closing production took place Sunday at 2pm at Mount Ida Preservation Hall—Grogan discussed his experience with WAMC’s Samantha Simmons.  WAMC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rev. Kevin Mackin, who led Siena University from 1996 to 2007 and later served as president at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, died on Saturday at age 87. A wake is set for November 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Chapel + his burial will take place on November 22.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CEO was started under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 and has worked for decades to fight poverty in Rensselaer County — serving more than 11,000 people and 5,000 households each year with food, housing and early child services.   • On Nov 15, Saratoga Springs upset top-seeded CBA by winning 14 to 13 in driving rain at Colonie High School after a one-hour lightning delay, ending CBA’s winning streak of 24 games. The third-seeded Blue Streaks captured their first sectional title since 2015 and will return to Colonie next Saturday to face Middletown in state quarterfinal play.  Times Union
