COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Albany Train Show will be held tomorrow at the Polish Community Center on Washington Avenue Extension and will have 100 vendor tables, working train displays, and experts to help repair and value old models (admission is $7 for adults and free for kids 12 and under).  WRGB
  • Regional Food Bank volunteers have ramped up efforts for New York's largest Thanksgiving food distribution, hosting three times more events than last year and planning over 350,000 meals; board member Dominick Purnomo of Yono's Restaurant & DP Brasserie leads a team preparing 8,000 cooked meals for those in need, with bags of groceries and meals available starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and seniors served on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.  ABC NEWS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Air will soon launch a non-stop flight from Albany International to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport beginning February 13. One-way tickets start at $69 (if booked by August 18) and flights will run on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays until reduced in March.  ABC NEWS 10
  • BelGioioso Cheese is expanding its New York operations in Glenville and Campbell with an investment of over $23 million — the move will create at least 30 jobs and use an additional 100 million pounds of local milk from New York dairies.  ABC NEWS 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dozens of UAlbany researchers were named among the world’s top 2 percent of scientists in the Stanford University report published through Elsevier (which selected 100,000 top scientists from over 6 million) and 54 faculty were recognized across multiple fields.  University at Albany
  • Albany High School postponed its new security system to address parental concerns after three informational meetings increased parent support — the district will begin five days of training in December to improve safety and morning class arrivals.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Office of General Services workers installed the Empire State Plaza Christmas tree Wednesday, and the tree donated by the Christopher family in Ballston Lake will be the only one set up outside the state Capitol — ongoing restoration in East Capitol Park means no additional trees as a lighting ceremony and fireworks show will be held Dec. 7.  Times Union
  • Albany County named Wanda Willingham as its Citizen of the Month for November. Willingham has served the 3rd Legislative District since 1999+ she was named deputy chairwoman in 2024 and helped start the Legislative Black Caucus, county executive Dan McCoy said she leads by example.  ABC NEWS 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • Troy’s 78th Turkey Trot will have minor tweaks as ARE Event Productions takes over coordination after the city ended its contract with the longtime provider—changes include moving the water tent, shifting packet pick-up, and adding a photo booth. With 5,488 runners registered so far and an expected total of 7,500, the historic Thanksgiving race is set to draw competitors and spectators from over 35 states.  Times Union
  • The UAlbany men’s basketball team won the Albany Cup two years in a row — they will try to secure a third win tonight at MVP Arena to overcome Siena’s series lead.  ABC NEWS 10
  • The UAlbany volleyball team — seeded third — will open its postseason play by facing second-seeded Bryant at 8:00 p.m. today at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore. A win will advance the Great Danes to the championship on November 22 where the victor earns an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.  University at Albany
