COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Capital Winter Village, a reimagined holiday event rebranded from last year’s Schenectady Winter Village, will transform Mohawk Harbor over four festive weekends — offering vendors, live entertainment, and seasonal food and drink.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany will serve 2,000 traditional Thanksgiving meals on Thanksgiving Day from noon to 2 p.m. to help those facing food insecurity—volunteers prepared 400 Thanksgiving baskets on the 24th and are busy getting the meal ready.  WRGB
  • Dominic Bersani, a World War II veteran from East Greenbush, was honored on his 99th birthday with a high school diploma and several military medals by the Lois Wilson Memorial Breakfast Club — he received the awards through the state Education Department’s Operation Recognition program after leaving school to serve in the Navy.  Times Union
  • Today the Albany County Sheriff’s Office is offering free Thanksgiving turkey dinners to families, shelters and first responders to ease hunger this holiday. The office has prepared 3,500 individual meals and 1,000 bulk meals for pickup at 58 Verda Avenue, Clarksville or for delivery across the Capital Region—families can call 518-487-5440 to request a meal.  NewsChannel 13
  • Schenectady’s quarterly Repair Café gathered over a dozen volunteers at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church to fix broken items like lamps, laptops, and jewelry, helping residents reduce waste and share skills + build community connections.   • A popular Ballston Spa deli known for its hearty breakfast sandwiches, roast beef and fresh salads is for sale for $600,000 turnkey—complete with the building and all equipment.   • Penzeys opened its new shop on November 21 in Colonie at 145 and 145A Wolf Road—this 3,100-square-foot location in Wolf Road Park follows a $1 million beautification project and is near Professor Java’s Coffee Sanctuary.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airport officials said Albany International is preparing for a busy Thanksgiving travel week and advised travelers to arrive early as terminal expansion work may change traffic patterns—over 10,000 travelers are expected to depart and a similar number to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. The airport expects to exceed 1.5 million enplanements this year.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Local leaders gathered at Capital Hills Golf Course yesterday to urge Albany residents to enjoy outdoor activities even in the cold while keeping parks clean and dogs leashed—Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said the city will clear parking lots when snow begins so everyone can safely go snowshoeing, sledding, or cross-country skiing.  ABC NEWS 10
  • A hearing officer at the state labor board ruled that Porpiglia Farms must supply the United Farm Workers with requested employee lists and hiring plans — a clear violation of New York’s collective bargaining law. The decision was made earlier this month and the farm plans to appeal as part of a long-running union dispute.  Times Union

  • On Medical Monday, Dr. Sunny Intwala, a leading preventive cardiologist with Northwell Health in the Hudson Valley, discussed cholesterol management, cardiac imaging and heart-disease prevention during a session hosted by Ray Graf. He (a Brown University graduate) cares for thousands of patients each year (and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School).  WAMC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University at Albany women's basketball team will play its only home game against RPI on Wednesday, November 26 — coming off wins over Siena and St. Bonaventure. The Danes hold a strong series record of 25–9 and will rely on their balanced offense and defense to build on recent successes.  University at Albany
  • The University at Albany men's basketball team will travel to Laval, Quebec—this weekend to compete in the Northern Classic at Place Bell Arena, where they will play Colgate on November 28 at 7:30 p.m., Fordham on November 29 at 7:30 p.m., and SUNY Oneonta on November 30 at 1:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • University at Albany linebacker Chris Gales was named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the league on Monday morning after he recorded 12 tackles—making a crucial sack in the final seconds of the upset win over Monmouth. This win marked the first time UAlbany defeated a ranked opponent in recent history.  University at Albany
