ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to an apartment fire at River’s Edge Apartments on River View Road in Green Island on Wednesday night—officials say the blaze appears knocked down.  NewsChannel 13

  • Albany International Airport is expecting more flyers this holiday season as Triple A reported an extra 1.6 million travelers and six million domestic trips for Thanksgiving — airport spokesperson Matt Hunter provided the forecast.  WAMC

CULTURE NEWS

  • A $15 million restoration at Albany City Hall allowed project manager Bill Brandow and experts to climb the bell tower—revealing Henry Hobson Richardson’s 142-year-old design and its intricate stonework that established his national legacy. Their climb provided a rare view of the building’s historic details and enduring impact on public architecture.  Times Union
  • Lea Salonga will perform her Stage Screen and Everything in Between show at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on December 2 at 7:30 p.m. as the venue reopens, and she is known for Broadway roles such as Les Misérables plus Miss Saigon while her latest work is the holiday album Sounding Joy.  WAMC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SUNY students have spent the month raising money and collecting donations so campuses have food for Thanksgiving—University at Albany Honors College students donated four boxes of food and toy items to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society in memory of Professor Erin Baker—to help combat college food insecurity.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York state lawmakers will raise penalties for animal abusers by increasing fines to $10,000 and potential jail time to four years — and they will create a statewide registry to curb repeat offenses after several high-profile cases in the Capital Region.  WAMC
  • Yesterday, a roundtable panel discussed big news topics with panelists including Judy Patrick from the New York Press Association, Nic Rangel from the Legal Aid Society, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, and sociology professor Catherine Tan from Vassar College. The discussion showed different views (from media, law, government, and education) on issues our community faces.  WAMC

  • With Thanksgiving coming tomorrow, many women face extra stress from chores and hosting, and local psychologist Dr. Julie Morison recommends positive thinking to cope + she shares her advice in a clip on WTEN+ airing on Mondays.
