ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Siena men's lacrosse coach Liam Gleason (41), a UAlbany graduate, fell down stairs at his Halfmoon home on Sunday around 4 p.m. and is now hospitalized with a serious head injury after receiving CPR.  Times Union

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Easton-based Allen family finalized the purchase of Herrington Farms, a century-old dairy operation in Brunswick, in October and will continue running it under the Herrington brand—updating operations and equipment as they adapt to modern challenges. The sale follows the Herrington family’s exit from dairy farming after the unexpected death of a key family member prompted multiple offers.  Times Union

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Albany International Airport is getting ready for a big snowstorm as the National Weather Service predicts snow between a couple inches and heavier amounts + officials will send extra crews and check deicing equipment + they plan to alert travelers about delays.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albany is preparing for a winter storm (forecast to drop eight inches of snow) and crews have shifted to 12-hour shifts to treat roads. Mayor Kathy Sheehan said the city has 65 pieces of equipment ready and officials urge residents to stay home if possible.  NewsChannel 13
  • Gov. Hochul praised the approval of three downstate casino licenses and said they must bring real benefits to local communities + create billions in funding for the MTA and tens of thousands of jobs. She said she will soon await the Gaming Commission’s review of the board’s recommendations.  WRGB
  • Aaron Wilson, co-owner of Herbie’s Burgers, closed his Lark Street bar because strict cabaret license rules delayed approval and cut attendance. Albany Common Council passed amendments to simplify the process, but Wilson said he wants the rules repealed and may reopen the space after reviewing the new regulations.  WAMC
  • Governor Hochul announced the Home Energy Assistance Program is open as winter temperatures drop, offering low- and moderate-income households up to $996 to help with heating costs. Eligible residents can apply online, by mail, or in person and must act quickly as emergency benefits begin January 2—delays were tied to a recent federal shutdown.  WRGB

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany women's basketball overcame a first-quarter deficit to beat Bucknell 65-62 in overtime on Monday night at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg — freshman Amaya Stewart scored 20 points while Lara Langermann added 14 in overtime. The Great Danes improved their record to 5-2 and will face Sacred Heart on Wednesday.  University at Albany
  • Union College’s hockey team flew to Belfast for the Friendship Four tournament where they competed for the prized Belpot Trophy while fans saw the team as more than just players—they are like family. Kristen Raffan and coach Josh Hauge noted that long-term bonds and close ties among players and supporters make the program a true second family.  WAMC
