COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Teen volunteer Olivia Rose was honored by Albany County Monday for logging over 3,000 service hours at projects such as the South End Butterfly Sanctuary and Youth Court. She was crowned Miss Teen New York and plans to propose a waterfront museum while interning at the State Assembly this summer.  WAMC
  • Troy nonprofits have secured a $2M boost through Project RISE to support youth services + expand programs, including developing an online resource platform for community youth, with several initiatives set for early 2026.  Times Union

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • New data from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee showed deadly motor vehicle crashes statewide fell from 766 to 681 from January to October 2025 + upstate crashes dropped from 490 to 420 while Long Island saw a slight increase, credited to safety campaigns and law enforcement.  WRGB

  • A review compares breakfast dishes at Bob’s Diner (open 168 hours) in Watervliet with upscale Scarlet Knife (open 33 hours) in Latham; Scarlet Knife, which turned 3 last month, offers pricier eggs Benedict and hash with refined presentation.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After electrician Nickolas Scribner died last November, his mother pushed for state safety rules on kratom. Gov. Hochul signed Monday a law that requires warning labels on kratom products (an herb used for pain relief) and sets a minimum buying age of 21.  WAMC

  • UAlbany has announced Tom Perkovich as the new head coach of the Great Danes football program. The Tonawanda native, with over 20 years of coaching experience, will be introduced at Broadview Center after the New Year.  University at Albany
